Faustina Charles Mfinanga (born November 9, 1992), professionally known as Nandy, is a Tanzanian singer, songwriter, and actress. Born and raised in Moshi, in the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania, she has become one of East Africa’s leading female artists. She won the prestigious All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) twice as the Best Female Artist in East Africa in 2017 and 2020.

Early Life

Nandy was born to Mary Charles, a tailor, and Charles Mfinanga, a mechanic. Her stage name "Nandy" is a shortened form of her traditional name, Nandera. She developed a passion for music from an early age and joined her local Sunday school choir at the KKKT Lutheran Church in Moshi at just 5 years old.

She attended Mawenzi Primary School and later Lomwe High School, where she became the head of the school choir. After high school, she proceeded to the College of Business Education (CBE) in Dar es Salaam for further studies.

Music Career

Nandy’s professional music journey began after she was introduced to Ruge Mutahaba, CEO of Tanzania House of Talent (THT). There, she met producer Emma the Boy and released her debut single Nagusagusa, which quickly became a national hit.

Her career took a bigger leap in 2016 when she participated in the Tecno Own the Stage competition, finishing as the first runner-up. The contest not only boosted her exposure across Africa but also helped her learn valuable lessons from mentors like M.I Abaga, Yemi Alade, and Bien (Sauti Sol).

In 2017, Nandy dropped the hit track One Day, which led to multiple opportunities, including participation in Coke Studio Africa and winning her first AFRIMA award. She later repeated her success by winning again in 2020.

In January 2023, she launched her own record label, The African Princess, signing her first artist, Yammi. Nandy also runs a personal beauty brand, a lipstick line named Shushi.
