Ugochi Lydia Onuoha (born 1996 or 1997), known professionally as Guchi, is a rising Nigerian Afropop singer celebrated for her catchy rhythms and genre-blending style. With a sound that fuses Afropop, dancehall, and highlife, Guchi is steadily becoming one of the most recognizable voices among the new wave of Afrobeats talent.

Early Life

Guchi was born in Kaduna State and raised in Abuja, Nigeria. Her family hails from Mbaise in Imo State. She is the second of four children. Her musical journey began in the church choir at just 7 years old, performing not only at church but also for her grandparents. Influenced by her father’s love for Michael Jackson, she developed a deep passion for music early on.

She started her university education at Edo State University before moving to Lagos, where she continued her studies in Theatre and Media Arts part-time at the University of Lagos.

Music Career

Guchi officially began her music career in 2012 and debuted with the single "No Be Jazzy" in April 2019. That same year, she signed to PG Records Entertainment and released the single "Addicted", followed by "Closer". Her debut EP, I Am Guchi, dropped in October 2020 and included five tracks that introduced her unique sound to a wider audience.

In February 2021, she released "Jennifer", a breakout hit that went viral on TikTok. The remix, featuring Tanzanian star Rayvanny, was released in June 2021, further expanding her reach across Africa. Her October 2021 single "Benzema" — named after French footballer Karim Benzema — debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Top Triller Global Chart.

In 2022, she collaborated again with Rayvanny on the song "Sweet" and released "Shattered" in March, showcasing her lyrical depth and evolving artistry.

Other Endeavors

In January 2020, Guchi was appointed as a brand ambassador for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for a two-year term, using her platform to advocate against drug abuse among Nigerian youth.
